SR 972/Coral Way/SW 22nd Street
CONNECT Engineering provided their engineering expertise for this historic highway project located in the City of Miami in Miami-Dade County.
The purpose of this project is to mill and resurface the existing pavement to preserve its service life, upgrade deficient pedestrian curb ramps, upgrade substandard rectangular rapid flashing beacon assemblies at the mid-block crosswalk near SW 21st Avenue, upgrade all broken and substandard ground-mounted signs, and replace and upgrade all pavement markings affected by construction. Other improvements include improving lighting at the mid-block crosswalk to enhance pedestrian safety, reconstructing broken sidewalks, and closing an abandoned driveway. Other safety initiatives include increasing the width of the outside sharrow lane by narrowing the width of the inside travel lane through re-striping and replacing damaged speed feedback signs. Proactive coordination was performed with stakeholders, e.g., the City, the Miami Parking Authority, Miami-Dade County, Miami-Dade Transit, and businesses. The project design was accomplished ahead of schedule.
