Community Involvement
CONNECT actively participates in social responsibility, makes charitable donations, and contributes to benevolence programs.
We are sponsors and active members to professional organizations, such as the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) where we have volunteered in beach clean-ups at the Key Biscayne Beach and fostered team building in the ASCE Miami-Dade Branch’s annual field day event. We are also sponsors and active members to the Florida Engineering Society (FES) where we are currently participating in their mentor and mentee program to help grow and develop the next generation of civil engineers.
We make charitable donations to Feeding South Florida and Lotus House which are non-profit organizations that continue to make a positive difference for our South Florida communities.
CONNECT also contributes to benevolent programs and events. Our president, Adrian Robaina, PE has volunteered at the Mother of Christ Catholic School & Learning Center for 6th and 8th graders to raise interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
CONNECT also annually judges and sponsors Florida International University’s (FIU) Wall of Wind STEM Challenge. This competition challenges teams of high school students to develop an innovative hurricane wind mitigation concept and solution within guidelines developed by the WOW Research Team. Teams prepare a physical test, an oral presentation and a technical paper. The mitigation concepts are tested by the Wall of Wind on the day of the live competition. CONNECT sponsors a videographer to document the event with a video that showcases the fun, hard-working team effort by the participants and helps promote FIU’s research center to earn grants.
